Meezaan Jafri, the son of veteran actor Jaaved Jaaferi, recently shared insights into the challenges star kids encounter in Bollywood. He confronted the widespread belief that children of film personalities have an effortless pathway in the industry, clarifying that the reality is significantly different.
“Many assume star kids have it easy. This is a misconception,” Meezaan stated. “While there may be certain perks, such as obtaining opportunities sooner, the weight of expectations and legacy can be immense. Sometimes, entering the industry without that history allows for a fresh start.”
Meezaan stressed that each actor, irrespective of their background, faces unique obstacles. “Everyone has their advantages and challenges. Each person follows their own path. Rather than criticize, we should recognize the difficulties faced by all at various stages,” he remarked.
He also touched on the topic of groupism within the film industry, mentioning that actors often have their own circles, and talent management agencies tend to collaborate with particular production houses. These factors, he explained, can create both opportunities and hurdles for newcomers, whether they are star kids or not.
Meezaan kickstarted his Bollywood adventure as an assistant director to Sanjay Leela Bhansali, contributing to films such as Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat. He made his acting debut in Bhansali’s production Malaal, co-starring with Sharmin Sehgal. Although the film didn't fare well at the box office, Meezaan has continued to establish himself through roles in movies like Hungama 2, Yaariyan 2, and The Miranda Brothers.
Currently, he is lauded for his performance in De De Pyaar De 2, directed by Anshul Sharma and produced by T-Series Films and Luv Films. The romantic comedy-drama features notable actors such as Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, and R. Madhavan. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the film has performed admirably at the box office, raking in ₹61.85 crore domestically.
Meezaan’s reflections reveal that being a star kid does not equate to automatic success; the industry is rife with pressures, expectations, and specific challenges. His frank viewpoint provides valuable insight into the trials faced by actors navigating the complex world of Bollywood, regardless of their lineage.
