In a pivotal move, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) of Qatar has established a significant framework agreement with global data management powerhouse, Informatica, during the recent MWC25 event held in Doha. Sami Mohammed Al Shammari, MCIT's Assistant Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Operations, signed the document alongside Yasser Shouki, Informatica's Vice President for Emerging Markets in the Middle East and Africa.
This collaboration forms a crucial part of Qatar’s strategy to develop a robust data ecosystem, reinforcing its central database as a reliable resource for sound decision-making. Informatica's role, selected in partnership with the National Planning Council, aligns with the governmental vision for digital advancement.
Al Shammari underscored the ministry’s dedication to enhancing Qatar’s digital infrastructure. He noted that MCIT aims to establish a solid foundation for the government’s digital frameworks, boost the efficiency of data governance, and modernize operational procedures. This initiative focuses on integrating the latest technologies and innovative solutions while fostering sustainable national capabilities to utilize data as a key asset in decision-making.
Ahmed Hassan Al Obaidly, Director General of the National Statistics Center at the National Planning Council, pointed out the initiative’s importance in creating an advanced governance structure. He mentioned that the agreement will help standardize national definitions and concepts, streamline data flow among governmental entities, and enhance the accuracy and quality of data. Furthermore, it aims to ensure a cohesive integration of data within government systems, establishing the central database as a unified reference for official information and statistics.
Al Obaidly reiterated that this collaboration bolsters Qatar’s National Data Strategy and aids in developing an integrated national data governance framework. The partnership further underscores Qatar’s commitment to treating data as a valuable national asset, supporting its long-term objectives outlined in Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy. It also aims to improve the reliability of statistical outputs critical for informed public policy and services.
Yasser Shouki from Informatica expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with the Qatari government. He highlighted that this alliance is in sync with Qatar's digital transformation journey, allowing government bodies to fully harness the value of their AI-ready data through innovative tools for cataloging, integration, and governance.
Informatica's advanced solutions will empower Qatar to connect, manage, and harmonize its data while also supporting cloud-based and AI-driven analytics. This partnership illustrates Qatar’s drive to employ pioneering technologies in crafting a modern, efficient, and integrated data ecosystem for its public institutions.
By formalizing this agreement, Qatar further establishes its leadership in regional digital transformation, ensuring governmental entities have access to high-quality, well-governed data. This collaboration sets the stage for innovative digital solutions that boost efficiency, transparency, and decision-making within the public sector.
