Lumo, an innovative taxi service based in the UAE, has unveiled its new luxury robotaxi fleet for Abu Dhabi. This groundbreaking initiative, developed in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz and Momenta, utilizes advanced operational expertise to enhance autonomous mobility. The robotaxis feature Momenta's cutting-edge L4 autonomous technology built upon the renowned Mercedes-Benz S-Class, setting a new standard as the first scalable luxury robotaxi model derived from mass-produced premium vehicles.
Planned to commence commercial operations in Abu Dhabi next year, the fleet aims to expand to additional international markets thereafter. The partnership is designed to merge top-notch engineering with state-of-the-art artificial intelligence and effective on-the-ground operations, setting the stage for the next era of intelligent transportation.
Faisal Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Bannai, Advisor to the UAE President for Strategic Research and Advanced Technology Affairs, highlighted the UAE's suitability for pioneering future mobility solutions, commending the nation's clear foresight, rapid advancements, and commitment to embracing technology. He noted that this collaboration exemplifies the apex of engineering and autonomous intelligence within a unified ecosystem.
Joerg Burzer, CTO of Mercedes-Benz, expressed that this partnership is transforming global mobility standards through the creation of premium robotaxis with an emphasis on safety, comfort, and sophistication. He remarked that this venture seeks to establish a new benchmark for intelligent transportation on a worldwide scale.
Momenta CEO Xudong Cao articulated that this collaboration harmonizes Mercedes-Benz's rich engineering legacy with Momenta's AI specialization and Lumo's robust operational capabilities. He emphasized that the robotaxi service, driven by Momenta's R6 reinforcement learning model, aims to deliver a secure, high-quality, and intelligent mobility experience for passengers in the UAE and beyond.
