In a significant development, Lebanon and Israel have consented to a ceasefire, following extensive discussions facilitated by the United States, as announced in a joint statement on Wednesday.
The ceasefire is contingent upon Hezbollah's complete cessation of hostilities and the withdrawal of its militia from regions south of the Litani River.
Both nations have agreed to accelerate the establishment of pilot areas, which will be under the full command of the Lebanese Armed Forces, as part of US recommendations. These zones are intended to be free from any non-state armed presence, enhancing regional security and stability.
Additionally, Lebanon and Israel affirmed their intention to carry on with direct dialogues aimed at fostering mutual trust and addressing lingering disputes.
Political and security discussions are set to resume after June 22, as both parties strive for a detailed agreement.
This ceasefire signifies a crucial move towards alleviating tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border and may lead to further diplomatic advancements in the near future.
