A high-level meeting focused on the development and support of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) was held in Bishkek, highlighting the government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s economic backbone. The meeting took place at the Presidential Administration and brought together officials, financial institutions, and policy experts.
The session was led by Adylbek Kasymaliev, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Head of the Presidential Administration. He emphasized the crucial role that SMEs play in driving economic growth and providing employment opportunities across the country.
During the discussion, it was revealed that the contribution of SMEs to the national GDP has increased significantly over the past three years, rising from 40 percent to 51 percent. This growth reflects a positive trend in economic development and highlights the increasing importance of entrepreneurship in Kyrgyzstan.
Kasymaliev stressed that development funds should prioritize projects in rural areas, where opportunities are still limited. He noted that supporting local entrepreneurs and helping them launch projects can lead to balanced regional development and improved living standards.
Officials also reviewed a draft program aimed at supporting SMEs through 2030. The program includes measures to improve access to financing, such as preferential loan schemes, interest subsidies, and guarantee mechanisms that reduce financial risks for businesses.
In addition to financial support, the plan focuses on building entrepreneurial skills through training, mentorship, and business acceleration programs. These initiatives are expected to strengthen the capabilities of entrepreneurs and ensure long-term sustainability of their ventures.
At the end of the meeting, several directives were issued to government bodies to fast-track the approval and implementation of the SME development program. Authorities believe that these steps will create a stronger business environment and further boost economic growth in the coming years.
