As of Thursday, Kuwait has reopened its airspace at Kuwait International Airport, concluding a temporary air traffic suspension that commenced on February 28 due to prevailing regional tensions.
Sheikh Eng. Hamoud Mubarak Hamoud Al-Sabah, Chairman of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, announced this development. The Kuwait News Agency reported that the reopening follows meticulous coordination with international authorities to adhere to stringent safety and security protocols.
Air traffic is slated to resume gradually, guided by a phased approach. Technical teams have already initiated maintenance and repair on affected facilities and operational systems linked to the recent regional disruptions.
Sheikh Hamoud Al-Sabah emphasized that the aviation sector is fully equipped to efficiently reinstate regular operations. He also expressed gratitude towards Saudi Arabia for its assistance in managing Kuwaiti flights through its airports during the closure.
Additionally, he acknowledged the collaborative efforts of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations, highlighting the unified regional response that facilitated the crisis management and expedited the reopening.
This move signifies a crucial advancement towards restoring normal air travel in Kuwait following weeks of disruptions.
