Khalifa University of Science and Technology has forged a partnership with China’s Guangzhou Baiyun Electric Equipment Co., Ltd. (BYE) to collaborate on innovations in clean energy and modern electrification technologies. This new memorandum of understanding aims to establish a joint innovation lab dedicated to bolstering long-term research and development that will support the power sector of the GCC region.
The MoU was executed by Professor Ebrahim Al Hajri, President of Khalifa University, alongside Dezhao Hu, Chairman of BYE. Their collaboration will target essential areas such as renewable energy integration, advanced power electronics, hybrid AC/DC grids, transportation electrification, green hydrogen solutions, and AI-powered power systems. Additionally, efforts will be made to enhance data center integration while developing technologies tailored to meet the GCC’s growing energy demands.
The partnership will also provide opportunities for student internships, technical training, and organizing joint seminars to bridge industry professionals with academic researchers. Khalifa University’s Advanced Power and Energy Centre (APEC) will serve as BYE’s central R&D hub in the UAE. BYE will leverage APEC’s laboratories for research projects, enabling APEC researchers to access BYE’s industrial facilities for enhanced collaboration.
Professor Al Hajri remarked that this partnership reflects the university’s dedication to the UAE’s sustainable future and energy transition aspirations. He emphasized that the collaboration will combine BYE’s product know-how with APEC’s research strength to expedite the introduction of new technologies for the GCC market and beyond. Dezhao Hu framed the agreement as a significant milestone for BYE, reinforcing their expansion and innovation within the region.
Under the terms of this agreement, Khalifa University students will benefit from summer internships and paid positions at BYE’s R&D centers. This initiative aims to foster knowledge exchange and equip the region’s future professionals in the evolving energy landscape. The MoU also sets an annual training goal to cultivate a minimum of five specialized experts each year, along with technical lectures and seminars aimed at industry stakeholders.
This alliance is set to enhance research in renewable energy, contemporary grid systems, and next-generation electrification technologies, aligning with the UAE’s long-term sustainability objectives.
