Iran has declared that its national football squad is fully equipped for a “proud and successful” showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States.
Fatemeh Mohejerani, a spokesperson for the government, reported on state television that the Ministry of Youth and Sports has officially confirmed the team’s preparedness for the event, acting on directives from the sports minister.
Previously, uncertainty surrounded Iran's involvement due to rising military tensions in the region this year. However, officials have now assured that the team’s preparations are in full swing.
FIFA has consistently affirmed that Iran will adhere to the established World Cup schedule and has dismissed suggestions to move Iran’s matches to alternative locations like Mexico.
On March 31, FIFA President Gianni Infantino met with Iranian football officials and players in Turkey, where Iran played two friendly matches against Nigeria and Costa Rica. Infantino offered support to assist in the arrangements for an external training camp.
Although the domestic football league has been suspended due to ongoing conflict, the national team has recently commenced training sessions in Tehran, as depicted in official social media updates.
The team is scheduled to compete in the group stages in the U.S., facing New Zealand and Belgium at the Inglewood stadium in Los Angeles, followed by a match against Egypt in Seattle.
The squad aims to arrive in Tucson, Arizona for their training camp by June 10, in compliance with FIFA's regulations for an early arrival prior to the competition.
An important matter still being discussed is securing U.S. visas for the Iranian delegation, notably for the Iranian Football Federation president Mehdi Taj, who previously faced entry denial to the World Cup draw in Washington, D.C.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19.
