Probe Ordered After IPG Kayaking Tragedy

Post by : Shakul

Fadhlina Sidek has assured a thorough and transparent investigation following the tragic deaths of two trainee teachers from the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) Perlis Campus during a kayaking activity. The incident occurred at Pantai Merdeka and has raised serious concerns over safety protocols in outdoor educational programs.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has initiated a comprehensive review of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for outdoor activities across all institutions. The move aims to strengthen safety measures and prevent similar incidents in the future. Authorities emphasized that all aspects of the program, including supervision and risk assessment, will be closely examined.

Fadhlina stated that the ministry takes full responsibility for the tragedy and assured that justice will be served for the victims’ families. She confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway, and any violations of regulations will lead to strict accountability. Officials involved in organizing the activity have been temporarily reassigned while inquiries continue.

The minister also visited Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar to pay her respects to the victims and extend condolences to their families. The incident has sparked nationwide attention, highlighting the urgent need for stricter enforcement of safety guidelines in student activities.
