Investment from South Africa in Dubai has officially surpassed AED1 billion (approximately US$294 million) over the last five years, underscoring the growing economic ties between the two regions.
During the recent Dubai–South Africa Business Forum held in Johannesburg, Salem Al Shamsi, Executive Vice President of International Relations at Dubai Chambers, detailed that this investment encompasses vital sectors such as information and communications technology (ICT), pharmaceuticals, food industries, and other promising economic areas.
Al Shamsi emphasized Dubai Chambers' persistent initiatives to assist companies looking to expand internationally, particularly within Africa, which presents abundant prospects for trade, investment, and commercial progress.
This forum was a segment of the 13th trade mission to African markets organized by Dubai Chambers under the "New Horizons" initiative in 2023, aiming to enable Dubai entities to venture into new markets, pinpoint investment prospects, and foster enduring international alliances.
A group of 24 Dubai-based companies from diverse sectors attended the forum, engaging with South African counterparts to discuss trade and investment avenues while enhancing cooperative ties between the two markets.
Al Shamsi also noted that Dubai Chambers' office in South Africa serves a crucial role in supporting companies entering the local market and connecting with local business networks.
He expressed optimism regarding the continuation of investment growth between Dubai and South Africa in the forthcoming years, fueled by ongoing endeavors to attract high-value investments and strengthen economic collaboration between the two regions.
