A tragic road accident near Chicago claimed the life of a 25-year-old Indian student and left six other people injured late Saturday night in the U.S. state of Indiana.
According to reports, the accident occurred on Interstate 65 near the city of Crown Point in Lake County. Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene after receiving reports of a serious highway collision.
Local media identified the deceased student as Navya Gadusu. The Lake County Coroner’s Office confirmed that she was pronounced dead at 12:16 am on Sunday following the accident.
Authorities said six other individuals suffered injuries in the crash and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials have not yet released details regarding the condition of the injured victims.
Police and emergency response teams remained at the accident site for several hours as investigators examined the cause of the crash and cleared the damaged vehicles from the highway.
The incident has shocked members of the Indian community and fellow students in the United States. Messages of condolence and support have continued to pour in on social media following the news of Navya’s death.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the deadly collision on Interstate 65.
