India, Australia, and Canada have inaugurated a new trilateral tech initiative aimed at promoting innovation and clean energy. This announcement was made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi following a meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during the G20 Leaders’ Summit held in Johannesburg.
Named the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership, this collaboration seeks to leverage the unique strengths of the three countries to enhance critical and emerging technologies. Modi stated that the partnership aims to encourage innovation, secure supply chains, advance clean energy solutions, and enhance the application of artificial intelligence for the public good.
A joint statement released by the three governments noted their intent to “enhance cooperation on emerging technologies” while building on existing bilateral relationships. The initiative will focus on significant areas such as green energy development, sustainable supply chains, and critical mineral resources essential for cutting-edge technology production.
The statement underscored the commitment of the three nations to a shared strategic vision for a sustainable, secure future. The partnership will also aim to safely develop and deploy artificial intelligence to improve public services and create new opportunities for citizens.
Officials from India, Australia, and Canada are scheduled to convene in early 2026 to detail the next steps for this exciting initiative.
On the same day, Prime Minister Modi met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Modi remarked that his discussions with Starmer infused “new energy” into India-UK relations and expressed optimism for strengthening ties across various sectors. He also had a productive dialogue with the UN chief regarding urgent global challenges.
During the G20 Leaders’ Meeting's opening session, Modi urged leaders worldwide to reconsider global development strategies and proposed establishing a G20 initiative aimed at countering the increasing synergy between drug trafficking networks and terrorism. He also advocated for creating a global healthcare response group to bolster readiness for future emergencies.
The ACITI Partnership represents a pivotal advancement in cementing India’s international collaborations, particularly in technology, innovation, and clean energy—sectors crucial for shaping future global development.
