FIFA has officially declared that the 2026 FIFA World Cup has become the most attended event in the tournament's history, breaking the record set in 1994.

This achievement was marked during the latter stages of the Germany versus Ecuador match in East Rutherford, New Jersey, where large screens announced the astonishing attendance figure of 3,605,357, eliciting enthusiastic cheers from the crowd.

The previous record of just under 3.6 million attendees was achieved during the 1994 World Cup. This feat is noteworthy considering the earlier tournament featured only 52 matches, whereas the current edition has 48 matches still to be played, allowing for even greater attendance figures.

FIFA reported that venues have been hosting crowds at an average of over 99% capacity, illustrating the immense interest in the games throughout the ongoing competition.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised this groundbreaking milestone, stating that it represents the global fervor for football and its unparalleled ability to unite fans in joy and celebration.

Infantino emphasized the remarkable scenes captured in the 16 host cities, highlighting the exceptional enthusiasm displayed by aficionados.

This new attendance record signifies another historic achievement for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with many matches still left to play.
