Haj Pilgrims Urged To Limit Social Media Use

Haj Pilgrims Urged To Limit Social Media Use

Post by : Shakul

Tabung Haji has advised Malaysian pilgrims performing Haj to stay focused on their religious duties and limit the use of social media during their time in the Holy Land. The reminder comes as thousands of pilgrims gather in Mecca and Madinah for the annual pilgrimage.

Officials noted that while sharing moments online has become common, excessive use of mobile phones and social media platforms can distract pilgrims from the true purpose of Haj. The pilgrimage is considered one of the most important acts of worship in Islam and requires full attention and devotion.

According to Haj Guidance Operations director Shahrin Awaluddin, pilgrims should not allow digital distractions to interfere with important rituals. He stressed that Haj is not just a physical journey but a deeply spiritual experience that demands sincerity, focus, and complete dedication.

He explained that while social media use is not banned, overuse could result in missing key moments such as tawaf around the Kaaba, sa’i between Safa and Marwah, and especially wuquf at Arafah, which is considered the most significant part of the pilgrimage.

At the same time, Tabung Haji assured that the welfare of Malaysian pilgrims is being closely monitored throughout their stay. Authorities have provided facilities including accommodation, transportation, healthcare, and religious guidance to ensure that pilgrims can perform their rituals smoothly.

Officials also highlighted that support teams are available to assist pilgrims facing health issues or any difficulties. This ensures that even those who fall ill can continue their pilgrimage with proper care and assistance.

The 2026 Haj operations began on April 18, with around 31,600 Malaysian pilgrims traveling in stages to Saudi Arabia. Authorities have urged both pilgrims and their families to remain calm and focused, emphasizing that the primary goal of the journey is spiritual fulfillment rather than social media engagement.
