US authorities have confirmed the discovery of the body of one of the two missing University of South Florida students, raising serious safety concerns in the community. The search for the other student continues.
The remains of 27-year-old Zamil Limon were found on the Howard Frankland Bridge, a key road linking parts of the Tampa Bay area. This discovery occurred on Friday morning after an extensive investigation.
Law enforcement has arrested Limon’s roommate, Hisham Saleh Abugharbeih, on multiple preliminary charges including domestic violence, battery, and tampering with evidence. The specifics of the case are still being uncovered as the investigation remains active.
Limon and his partner, Nahida Bristy, both 27, were reported missing on April 16. The couple, doctoral students hailing from Bangladesh, were studying geography, environmental policy, and chemical engineering.
Limon was last seen at their student housing complex, while Bristy was spotted at a campus science building shortly afterward. Concern arose when their family friend couldn’t reach them and reported their disappearance to the authorities.
Police responded to a disturbance call near the university and safely evacuated family members from the suspect’s residence. Although the suspect initially interacted with officials, he later barricaded himself inside.
A SWAT team was deployed, and after some time, the suspect surrendered without further incident.
Officials continue to emphasize that the investigation is ongoing, and efforts to locate Nahida Bristy are still in progress. They urge anyone with information to assist.
This unfortunate incident has struck a chord within the university community and underscores the critical need for prompt reporting in potential violence cases.
