Fatima Sana Shaikh illuminated the event in Mumbai as she graced the special screening of her upcoming romantic drama, Gustaakh Ishq. Radiating elegance in a lemon-yellow saree, she exuded confidence while engaging with the cast, crew, and media. Directed by Vibhu Puri, the film features Vijay Varma alongside esteemed actor Naseeruddin Shah, marking a significant debut for fashion designer Manish Malhotra as a film producer.
During the screening, Fatima posed alongside Vijay Varma and warmly interacted with fans and the press. Her choice of saree was both simple and chic, accessorized with pearl earrings, a ring, and an elegantly styled bun. The one-shoulder blouse added a contemporary flair, creating a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity.
Gustaakh Ishq made its debut in the Gala Premiere section at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa. Fatima portrays Minni, a schoolteacher and daughter of a retired poet. This character offers an emotional and authentic portrayal, allowing her to delve into a life filled with modesty yet abundant dreams.
In an interview, Fatima expressed how Minni echoes the experiences of several women she has encountered in her life. She characterized Minni as resilient, composed, and optimistic, portraying a heroine who values love and integrity in a subtle manner. Director Vibhu Puri commended Fatima’s performance, highlighting her ability to infuse profound meaning into silence, making it resonate like speech.
During filming, Fatima faced a distressing health scare when she suffered a seizure on set, leaving the entire team shaken. Co-star Vijay Varma recalled the terrifying experience, with the team quickly making adjustments to ensure her safety. He provided comfort by resting his hand on her head as they awaited medical assistance. Subsequently, she was taken to a hotel room to recuperate, gradually regaining consciousness, albeit with no memory of the incident.
This episode not only underscored the intense pressures faced by actors but also highlighted the supportive camaraderie among the cast. Regardless of the challenging moment, Fatima diligently persevered in her role through to the film's completion.
With its emotional narrative, stellar cast, and depth, Gustaakh Ishq has garnered early acclaim. Fatima’s poised appearance at the Mumbai screening showcased her enthusiasm for the film, leaving fans eager to witness her poignant portrayal of Minni when it premieres soon.
