A major controversy has emerged in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as Fakhar Zaman has been officially charged with ball-tampering by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
The alleged incident took place during a high-pressure match between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings. In the final over, with Karachi needing 14 runs to win, Fakhar Zaman was seen exchanging the ball with teammate Haris Rauf while captain Shaheen Afridi was also present during the discussion.
Umpires grew suspicious and inspected the ball, eventually awarding five penalty runs to Karachi Kings and replacing the ball. This decision proved decisive, as Karachi successfully chased the target with three balls remaining, sealing a four-wicket victory.
According to the PCB, Fakhar Zaman denied the allegations during an initial disciplinary hearing conducted by match referee Roshan Mahanama. A final verdict is expected after a follow-up hearing within 48 hours.
If found guilty, Fakhar could face a one or two-match suspension under PSL regulations for a first-time offence.
The incident has drawn comparisons to the infamous 2018 Australian ball-tampering scandal, where players like David Warner, Steve Smith, and Cameron Bancroft faced severe bans.
This controversy has once again raised concerns about fair play and integrity in modern cricket, with fans eagerly awaiting the official decision from the PCB.
