In a commanding display, East Bengal FC triumphed 3-0 over Odisha FC during their Indian Super League 2025-26 encounter held in Margao, Goa. This vital win bolstered East Bengal's aspirations, positioning them closer to the top of the league standings.
The Kolkata side exhibited dominance from the get-go, showcasing superior control and fluid attacking play. Bipin Singh opened the scoring, followed by a brace from Youssef Ezzejjari, securing a straightforward victory for the team.
With this match result, East Bengal catapulted into fourth place in the ISL table, amassing 18 points after nine outings, whereas Odisha FC remained entrenched at the bottom with a mere six points. Bipin Singh was honored as Man of the Match for his remarkable contribution, featuring one goal and one assist.
The match kicked off with East Bengal firing on all cylinders, nearly hitting the target within the opening minutes through relentless attacks on Odisha’s defense. The first goal materialized in the 11th minute when PV Vishnu made a clever run, delivering a low cross that Bipin Singh promptly converted.
After taking the lead, East Bengal maintained possession, consistently threatening Odisha's goal with quick, strategic passing. PV Vishnu was instrumental on the flank, supported by midfielders Saúl Crespo and Nandhakumar, who effectively controlled the game.
Odisha FC found it challenging to gain any rhythm during the first half, largely relying on counterattacks for their chances. Rahim Ali displayed brief bursts of attacking vigor, yet East Bengal’s goalkeeper Prabhsukhan Gill managed to thwart any significant threats, making a crucial save before the halftime whistle.
The second half mirrored the first, with East Bengal firmly in control. Their second goal came in the 70th minute, courtesy of another deft ball from PV Vishnu, enabling substitute Youssef Ezzejjari to capitalize on a defensive lapse from Odisha.
East Bengal didn’t relent after doubling their lead, adding a third goal in the 84th minute. Following an intelligent pass from substitute Mawihmingthanga, Bipin Singh skillfully set up Ezzejjari, who finished calmly for his second goal of the match.
Although Odisha FC sought to mount a comeback in the dying minutes, their offensive efforts were lackluster, with captain Carlos Delgado’s header going astray. East Bengal’s defense held firm, ensuring a clean sheet throughout the match.
This victory marks a significant uplift for East Bengal as they continue their journey through the ISL. The team has shown commendable improvement in recent fixtures, particularly in their attacking strategies.
Conversely, this loss has added pressure on Odisha FC, necessitating adjustments in their defensive setup and attacking potency to salvage their season.
Supporters of East Bengal will find optimism in their escalating confidence and improved performance as the race for playoff spots intensifies.
