Dwayne Johnson has disclosed his desire to make a cameo in the eagerly awaited sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2, aiming to share the screen with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt. Currently celebrated for his performance in The Smashing Machine, Johnson opened up about his increasing interest in unpredictable roles.
His connection to the film stemmed from his collaboration with Emily Blunt, his co-star in The Smashing Machine, which narrates the tumultuous career and personal life of MMA fighter Mark Kerr. During Blunt's time filming The Devil Wears Prada 2, Johnson expressed his ambition to be included in the project, which stands in stark contrast to his typical action roles.
Johnson enthusiastically pitched himself for a small yet striking character, someone confident and stylish with deep ties to the fashion realm. Blunt recalled his determination with a laugh, noting that he genuinely attempted to get written into the script. Describing the character, Johnson mentioned that it required a distinct flair, even stating the need for size 15 heels. He humorously claimed the role would see him navigating in heels, to which Blunt playfully acknowledged that he actually looked great in them, calling him "hot" while wearing heels.
Unfortunately, despite his charm and eagerness to embrace the challenge, Johnson didn’t snag a role in the sequel. However, his passion for the film kept him engaged with the production. While filming unfolded in New York City, Blunt routinely shared videos and behind-the-scenes tidbits with him from her vehicle before heading onto set. Johnson recalls those moments with warmth, highlighting the intense atmosphere of the shoot, complete with throngs of enthusiastic fans. He characterized the excitement as being similar to that of a pop star, noting how enduringly powerful the franchise's allure is nearly two decades post the original film's release.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is directed by David Frankel, who also directed the 2006 hit that turned into a cultural mainstay. This sequel is based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel, the same source that inspired the initial film. The original movie debuted in June 2006 and continues to be cherished for its depiction of the high-stress fashion publishing environment, primarily due to Meryl Streep's iconic performance as Miranda Priestly and Anne Hathaway's breakout character as Andy Sachs.
The forthcoming sequel aims to further explore the characters’ journeys within a modern framework, addressing how the fashion industry has transformed in the era of social media, digital influence, and evolving workplace dynamics. As anticipation grows, the film is slated for release on May 1, 2026, featuring the main cast reprising their beloved roles, making it one of the year's most awaited films.
