Dubai Launches the Largest Asian Youth Paralympic Games

Post by : Badri Ariffin

On Tuesday, Dubai celebrated a significant milestone as His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, inaugurated the Asian Youth Paralympic Games – Dubai 2025. This year marks the largest gathering in the tournament’s history, showcasing 1,500 young talents from 35 nations during four days filled with competition across 11 different sports.

The opening ceremony at the Dubai Club for People of Determination set an inclusive and dynamic atmosphere, with delegates proudly parading with their nation's flags. An inspiring video highlighted the resilience and determination of the athletes, adding a heartfelt touch to the occasion.

As part of the ceremony, His Highness Sheikh Mansoor recognized Her Excellency Shakhnoza Shavkatovna Mirziyoyeva of Uzbekistan for her unwavering dedication to supporting sports for individuals with disabilities. Her commendable work received heartfelt applause from an audience comprised of senior UAE officials, ministers from neighboring countries, and representatives from various sports federations across Asia.

This year's Games will be hosted across eight premier venues in Dubai, featuring sports like athletics, swimming, boccia, powerlifting, table tennis, archery, goalball, badminton, wheelchair basketball, arm wrestling, and taekwondo. The 2025 edition is notable for its innovative use of artificial intelligence in managing events and operations, ensuring efficient coordination and improved accessibility for all participants.

The venue buzzed with anticipation as young athletes readied themselves to display their skills and determination. The Asian Paralympic Committee's anthem resounded before athlete Mohammed Khalid Taleb and referee Tariq Al Ali publicly took an oath to uphold values of integrity, fair play, and respect.

A cultural performance by Emirati artist Eyadah Al Menhali beautifully blended tradition into the event, enriching the atmosphere with music and poetry that celebrated the athletes' resolve. The evening concluded with an inspiring message focused on hope and ambition, heralding a crucial moment for Asia's emerging Paralympic stars.

As Dubai takes center stage for this pivotal event, it reaffirms its role as a leading global hub for inclusive sports, providing a significant platform for young athletes who aspire to influence the future of the Paralympic movement.
