Dubai RTA Unveils E-Scooter Permit Service on Digital Platforms

Dubai RTA Unveils E-Scooter Permit Service on Digital Platforms

Post by : Badri Ariffin

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has broadened its e-scooter riding permit application access to include all key digital platforms, enhancing convenience for both residents and visitors.

Initially only available on the RTA website, the service now integrates seamlessly into the RTA Dubai app and Dubai Now app, allowing users to apply without visiting service centers. This move supports Dubai’s ambition to be a leading smart city by promoting digital advancements and improved access to services.

Streamlined and Convenient Application Process

The e-scooter permit application has been designed to ensure a straightforward digital experience. Applicants need to complete an online theoretical assessment covering essential e-scooter traffic rules and safety practices. Upon passing, the permit is issued electronically through RTA’s smart channels.

This permit enables users to ride e-scooters in approved areas and streets defined by the RTA, promoting a systematic and safe approach to this mode of transport throughout the city.

Promoting Safety and Traffic Regulations

The e-scooter permit service forms part of a larger regulatory initiative focused on enhancing traffic awareness and organizing e-scooter mobility to safeguard all road users. The RTA has assured that the service will still be accessible through its official website, giving clients the flexibility to choose their preferred platform.

RTA has emphasized that all e-scooter users who do not qualify for exemption must secure an appropriate permit beforehand and adhere to traffic laws and safety guidelines to ensure public safety.

Procedure to Acquire an E-Scooter Riding Permit

  1. Access the RTA website or launch the RTA Dubai or Dubai Now app.

  2. Create a new account or log in.

  3. Select “E-Scooter Riding Permit.”

  4. Study training materials pertaining to traffic safety and e-scooter usage protocols.

  5. Successfully complete the online test.

  6. Receive your digital permit via email and SMS.

Important Terms and Conditions

  • Minimum Age: 17 years and older

  • Exemptions: Those possessing a valid UAE or international driving license

  • Permitted Areas: Approved zones and designated tracks such as Downtown Dubai, Jumeirah, and Palm Jumeirah

  • Restricted Areas: Saih Al Salam, Al Qudra, and Al Meydan

  • Fines: Penalties apply for riding without a permit, riding outside designated areas, or failing to wear a helmet

This digital enhancement signifies a further milestone in Dubai’s commitment to smart mobility, road safety, and efficient public services.
