Dubai solidifies its role as a key player in international trade with the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) reporting AED708 billion in commercial operations for 2024. This significant milestone not only showcases economic progress but also underscores Dubai’s pivotal role in global maritime trade.
Starting from its early days in 1886 with the Furda Department along Dubai Creek, the city’s ports have transformed into one of the most sophisticated maritime hubs worldwide. Currently, PCFC oversees operations across over 146 ports in 76 nations, providing crucial support to more than 155,000 workers, thus forming a vital part of Dubai’s economic and strategic initiatives.
Fueling Dubai’s Economic Growth
PCFC is instrumental in the emirate’s economic framework, managing the Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA), the world's largest free zone, which hosts over 12,000 businesses and creates around 500,000 direct and indirect jobs. The ongoing restructuring plans for JAFZA aim to boost infrastructure, attract fresh investments, and shape the economic future of Dubai.
“Our true competition lies within – each achievement sets a new standard for excellence,” noted PCFC leadership, highlighting a commitment to unending innovation and growth.
Advancements and Global Outreach
For 2025, PCFC has initiated several projects under the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. Key initiatives include the pioneering Dubai Ports Code, which aims to establish global technical standards for ports, along with advanced digital systems like Port Eye, leveraging AI and drones for oversight, and Marsa, enhancing marina workflow.
An impressive 149% increase in international yacht arrivals from last year signifies Dubai’s rise as a luxurious marine hotspot, backed by cutting-edge infrastructure, premium services, and excellent global connectivity.
Guiding Maritime Excellence Forward
With significant ports like Jebel Ali, Mina Rashid, and Al Hamriya, PCFC is at the forefront of Dubai’s ambition to be recognized as the fastest-growing, safest, and most connected maritime center globally. The synergy of strategic growth, technological advancement, and pro-business policies positions Dubai as a premier hub for trade, investment, and maritime leadership.
