Dubai Municipality Enhances Engineering Standards through New Partnership

Dubai Municipality Enhances Engineering Standards through New Partnership

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Dubai Municipality has entered into a Memorandum of Cooperation with the UAE Society of Engineers to elevate the engineering landscape in Dubai and ensure alignment with global benchmarks.

This partnership is centered around creating methods to assess, categorize, license, and qualify engineering professionals, thereby enhancing efficiency, readiness, and innovation within the engineering community, while also aligning with Dubai's aspirations to host significant global engineering and architectural events.

As part of the agreement, both organizations will perform necessary professional assessments for engineering practice licenses in the city. These assessments will be conducted at the facilities of the Society of Engineers, following internationally recognized standards. Additionally, the collaboration will include the establishment of an engineering classification system connected to technical and professional examination results.

The memorandum outlines collaborative initiatives such as:

  • Organizing high-profile international engineering and architectural events

  • Launching diverse training programs across multiple engineering disciplines

  • Conducting engaging technical workshops and discussion forums

  • Establishing digital platforms for the sharing of knowledge, research, and best practices

This partnership also aims to foster youth-led innovation by supporting upcoming engineering projects and facilitating field visits for engineers, students, and team members from both organizations to promote knowledge exchange.

H.E. Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, remarked:
“Our partnership with the Society of Engineers reinforces systems for evaluating and classifying engineers, enhances their skills, and promotes innovation and applied research in construction and sustainability, ensuring Dubai remains a global leader in urban planning and construction excellence.”

H.E. Abdullah Yousuf Al Ali, President of the Board of Directors, Society of Engineers – UAE, added:
“This strategic collaboration empowers engineers to refine their skills and advances sustainability in construction, while bolstering cooperation between the Society and Dubai Municipality to elevate professional standards and develop infrastructure. It also facilitates specialized training programs and workshops, further establishing the UAE as a hub for engineering and architectural excellence.”

This initiative is part of Dubai Municipality’s ongoing commitment to advancing the engineering sector by elevating professional standards, encouraging leadership, enhancing efficiency, and fostering innovation, thereby reinforcing Dubai’s status as a global center for engineering innovation and quality urban development.
