Dubai Municipality has implemented a series of extensive measures to effectively manage the current unpredictable weather conditions impacting Dubai and the surrounding UAE. The authority is regularly monitoring the situation and has stationed specialized field teams working tirelessly around the clock. These strategic efforts are part of the municipality's continuous preparedness initiatives aimed at minimizing the effects of heavy rainfall and ensuring essential services remain operational.
The municipality's upgraded strategy prioritizes maintaining infrastructure efficiency across all weather conditions. Core objectives include ensuring public safety, protecting property, minimizing disruptions, and facilitating smooth traffic flow throughout the emirate.
As part of its preventive measures, engineers have conducted thorough inspections and maintenance of stormwater drainage systems throughout Dubai. This includes the setup of 60 kilometers of surface pumping lines designed to expedite water drainage in flood-prone areas.
To boost water storage capacity, six temporary lakes have been established in key regions, adding to existing rainwater collection facilities capable of handling nearly 600,000 cubic meters. These installations relieve pressure on main networks during heavy downpours, with pumping lines also linked to major discharge routes such as the Dubai Water Canal, Dubai Creek, coastal outlets, and a comprehensive deep tunnel system for safe water management.
Operational teams have ramped up cleaning and upkeep efforts, focusing on rainwater drainage inlets, filters, and gradient lines. More than 84,000 drainage inlets have been checked in collaboration with real estate developers and free zones to ensure efficient network performance before and throughout rainfall.
24/7 Emergency Response Activated
Dubai Municipality has initiated a round-the-clock emergency response framework that includes sophisticated machinery and logistical support. These teams are dedicated to clearing accumulated water, resolving blockages, and addressing public inquiries. Moreover, additional assistance has been arranged through pre-approved contracts with private firms to aid water pumping during peak demands.
Eng. Adel Mohammed Al Marzouqi, Head of the Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Team and CEO of the Waste and Sewerage Agency, stressed that Dubai’s strategy merges engineering solutions, infrastructure enhancements, and comprehensive planning. He emphasized the significance of temporary lakes, expanded networks, and multiple discharge connections to effectively manage extreme weather conditions while keeping daily activities uninterrupted.
He highlighted that collaboration with governmental partners, real estate developers, and strategic organizations boosts decision-making and expedites response efforts. Training programs and field drills have also been enacted to ensure preparedness among technical teams for changing weather scenarios.
Public Cooperation Requested
Besides infrastructural improvements, the municipality has conducted simulation drills to enhance communication with call centers and streamline emergency reporting processes. Authorities are urging residents to adhere to safety protocols, avoid unnecessary travel during unstable weather conditions, and report water accumulation or urgent incidents through the Dubai Municipality Contact Centre at 800900 or via WhatsApp.
Residents should also monitor official weather updates released by UAE authorities to stay well-informed and prepared.
