A major fire broke out near Dubai International Airport in Dubai early Monday after a suspected drone strike hit a fuel tank in the vicinity of the airport, prompting authorities to temporarily suspend flight operations.
According to officials, the incident occurred during the early hours when a drone reportedly struck an area close to the airport’s fuel storage facilities. The impact triggered a large blaze, with thick smoke rising into the sky and visible from several parts of the city. Videos shared on social media showed flames and dark smoke near the airport complex.
Authorities confirmed that emergency response teams, including firefighters from Dubai Civil Defence, rushed to the scene to control the fire and secure the area. Officials said specialised teams were deployed immediately and began efforts to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby airport infrastructure.
The Dubai Media Office stated that the drone incident affected one of the fuel tanks located near the airport premises. Despite the intensity of the fire, authorities confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported.
As a precautionary measure, the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority temporarily suspended flight operations at the airport to ensure the safety of passengers, airline crews and airport staff. Travellers were advised to contact their respective airlines for updated flight information.
Flight tracking data showed that several incoming flights heading toward Dubai were either delayed or held mid-air during the emergency. Some aircraft arriving from cities including Karachi, Kathmandu, Hanoi, Asmara and Amman were temporarily diverted or placed on holding patterns until authorities assessed the situation.
The incident comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East following the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel. In recent weeks, missile and drone attacks have targeted several strategic locations across the Gulf region, including ports, oil facilities and airports.
Authorities later confirmed that the fire was brought under control after emergency teams worked for several hours at the site. Investigations are underway to determine the exact origin of the drone and assess the full extent of the damage caused by the strike.
