Tropical Storm Cristina Develops in the Pacific, Warnings Issued

Tropical Storm Cristina Develops in the Pacific, Warnings Issued

Post by : Badri Ariffin

On Monday, Tropical Storm Cristina emerged in the Pacific Ocean near Nicaragua, leading to weather alerts throughout Central America.

According to the Miami-based National Hurricane Center (NHC), Cristina has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph (75 kph) and is situated roughly 105 miles (170 kilometers) west-northwest of Managua, Nicaragua, and about 125 miles (200 kilometers) southeast of San Salvador, El Salvador.

Tropical storm warnings are now in effect for coastal regions from Puerto Sandino, Nicaragua, to the Guatemala-El Salvador border. Officials are actively monitoring the storm's progress through the eastern Pacific.

Forecasts predict Cristina will deliver substantial rainfall in Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala until Thursday. Expected rain amounts range from 4 to 8 inches, with some areas possibly receiving as much as 12 inches (30 centimeters).

This heavy rain heightens the potential for flash floods, river flooding, and landslides, especially in susceptible and highland zones.

Cristina becomes the second tropical storm currently influencing the Eastern Pacific, while Tropical Storm Boris remains off the Mexican coast and is anticipated to reach the shore on Tuesday.

Residents in impacted regions should remain vigilant by following local authorities' guidelines and staying informed about official weather updates.
