8 Rescued After Landslide Collapses Homes in Chongqing

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Eight people were rescued after a landslide struck Hanjia subdistrict in Pengshui, located in Southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality, on Friday morning. The incident caused several residential buildings to collapse, while more than 60 residents had already been evacuated shortly before the disaster occurred, according to CCTV News.

The landslide happened at 9:08 am on Friday. Large amounts of earth and rock suddenly moved down the slope, damaging and collapsing several homes situated below the affected area.

Early Warning Helped Evacuate Residents

A preliminary investigation found that community workers noticed scattered falling rocks at around 8:00 am. Recognizing the potential danger, they immediately issued a warning and informed local authorities.

Emergency measures were quickly put in place, and more than 60 residents were evacuated from the area before the landslide struck. Authorities said the disaster occurred while evacuation efforts were still underway.

Despite the early action, some people became trapped beneath the debris when the landslide hit. Officials have not yet confirmed the total number of people who may have been buried.

Eight People Pulled From Debris

Rescue teams worked rapidly after the collapse. By 11:38 am, emergency responders had successfully rescued eight people from the debris.

According to CCTV News, all eight survivors were transported to hospital for medical treatment. Authorities said none of them were in life-threatening condition.

Large-Scale Rescue Operation Underway

Search and rescue efforts remain ongoing as emergency teams continue to examine the affected area and look for any additional victims.

Following instructions from the Ministry of Emergency Management, the China Anneng Chongqing rescue team deployed 100 personnel and 50 sets of specialized equipment to the site. The equipment is being used for engineering rescue work, detection activities, and search operations.

Officials are continuing to assess the situation while rescue teams remain focused on locating anyone who may still be trapped.
