In March, China’s automotive sector witnessed a substantial increase in both production and sales, signaling a robust market recovery and escalating demand.
Data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) highlights that total automobile production hit 2.92 million units, while sales reached 2.9 million units. This denotes a remarkable rise of 74.4% in production and 60.6% in sales compared to February.
The surge is primarily attributed to the booming new energy vehicle (NEV) market. NEV production soared to 1.23 million units with sales close behind at 1.25 million units, showcasing a strong consumer shift towards electric and hybrid models.
For Q1, China produced a total of 7.04 million vehicles, with sales just surpassing at 7.05 million, reflecting a stable balance of supply and demand.
During the same timeframe, NEV production achieved 2.97 million units, while sales were recorded at 2.96 million units, highlighting the segment's key role within the auto industry.
Looking forward, industry analysts express optimism about sustained growth. Chen Shihua, CAAM's Deputy Secretary-General, pointed out that favorable government initiatives—such as extensive equipment renewal programs and consumer trade-in schemes—are poised to further enhance demand.
Furthermore, the forthcoming Beijing Auto Show is anticipated to unveil numerous new vehicle models, likely maintaining the market's momentum and elevating auto consumption in the upcoming quarter.
