On Sunday evening, Manchester City’s aspirations for the Premier League title took a significant hit as Chelsea pulled off a dramatic 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium, courtesy of a stunning last-minute goal from Enzo Fernandez.
City dominated the early exchanges and took the lead just before half-time when Tijjani Reijnders scored with a powerful effort, reflecting their control of the game. Their first-half performance showcased their ability to dictate play, keeping Chelsea mostly on the defensive.
However, the second half saw a shift in momentum. A double injury blow to central defenders Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias disrupted City’s flow. This setback invigorated Chelsea, who began to assert themselves and seek out chances.
As the match entered stoppage time, City looked poised for victory. Yet, in the 94th minute, a defensive lapse allowed Chelsea to strike back. A low cross found Enzo Fernandez unmarked, and the Argentine made no mistake, slotting it home to equalize and silence the Etihad crowd.
The draw sees City positioned second on goal difference, just ahead of Aston Villa but six points adrift of leaders Arsenal. Meanwhile, for Chelsea, without a permanent manager, this late equalizer symbolizes a moment of resilience in what has otherwise been a challenging season, while City faces disappointment over yet another slip in their title hopes.
