The Montreal Canadiens faced off against their historic rivals, the Boston Bruins, in a match that began with immediate intensity.
Right from the start at TD Garden, Tanner Jeannot of Boston and Josh Anderson of Montreal engaged in an opening fight, sparking excitement among fans and setting the stage for a fierce Original Six rivalry.
The Bruins maintained their early momentum throughout much of the first period, but after a mid-period fight between defenseman Nikita Zadorov and enforcer Arber Xhekaj, the tide shifted. Boston took the lead with a power-play goal by Alex Steeves, scoring just 18 seconds before the end of the period.
However, the game took a surprising turn thereafter.
Montreal came out in the second period, equalizing early and then exploding in the third with an impressive four goals in merely five minutes, dismantling Boston's defense and goalie.
The Bruins faced challenges with costly penalties as Montreal seized multiple 5-on-3 power-play chances, amplifying their lead. Ultimately, the Canadiens secured a convincing 6-2 win.
This loss capped a challenging homestand for the Bruins, who have now lost their last four games after a successful run of five wins out of six. With this defeat, Boston has fallen out of playoff contention and will take a three-day break before hitting the road for five games.
For Montreal, this victory was a pivotal moment, bringing their point total to 45 and extending their lead ahead of Boston by four, further establishing their position in the Eastern Conference.
Despite the lopsided score, Bruins players expressed feelings that the game slipped away rather than being lost outright.
Head coach Marco Sturm reflected, saying, “It felt like we were ready and engaged. That’s why the final score is still hard to accept.”
Once again, the rivalry proved to be filled with passion and physicality, yet Montreal turned chaos into control when it mattered most, earning them two critical points.
