A claim regarding a ₹500 gobar gas (biogas) cylinder is drawing attention across India, sparking discussions about affordable and sustainable fuel alternatives. The reported price for an 18 kg biogas cylinder has generated interest among consumers looking for cost-effective energy solutions.
Biogas, produced from cow dung and organic waste, is already being promoted under initiatives such as the GOBARdhan scheme. It is considered an environmentally friendly fuel that reduces dependence on LPG while also producing organic fertilizer as a useful by-product.
Experts, however, have clarified that most existing biogas systems operate through fixed plants and pipeline-based supply rather than portable cylinders like LPG. They advise caution, noting that claims about ready-to-use biogas cylinders should be verified through official sources.
The growing attention around biogas reflects a broader shift toward sustainable energy solutions in India, especially amid rising fuel costs and increasing awareness about environmental conservation.
