Australian snowboarder Belle Brockhoff has announced her retirement from competitive snowboarding ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics, a decision stemming from several serious injuries.
The 33-year-old, who is a three-time Olympian, was gearing up for the Milan-Cortina Winter Games in February. However, ongoing health challenges have led her to withdraw from the sport.
In the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, Brockhoff narrowly missed a medal, finishing fourth in snowboard cross. Unfortunately, her recent injury setbacks have proven too significant to overcome.
In late 2024, she suffered a serious wrist fracture. Her situation deteriorated in March of last year during a World Cup race in Georgia, where a heavy fall resulted in a fractured vertebra. After the crash, she was airlifted to the hospital, and medical staff inserted pins and rods into her back.
In her retirement announcement on Instagram, Brockhoff revealed her struggle with a compound wrist fracture and a fractured L1 vertebra in her spine.
Despite enduring many months of rigorous rehabilitation and practice, she felt she had reached her physical limits.
“After over 20 years in snowboarding, I feel it's time to leave competitive racing behind,” she stated.
Brockhoff's retirement not only marks the end of her Olympic career but also represents a significant chapter in Australian snowboarding.
