Business leaders in British Columbia are urging Premier David Eby to prioritize economic advancement in next year’s provincial budget.
In a public letter, the B.C. Chamber of Commerce listed three key priorities: potentially abolishing the provincial sales tax (PST) on capital initiatives, making progress on reducing interprovincial trade obstacles, and implementing actionable measures to “revitalize the economic engine” of the region.
Alex McMillan, interim CEO of the Chamber, indicated that the government should also lay out a clear framework to tackle B.C.’s $11 billion deficit, underscoring the importance of fiscal prudence for sustained growth.
“We view Budget 2026 as an opportunity to restore business confidence and elevate B.C. as a more enticing destination for private investment,” McMillan remarked. “It’s critical to build on recent efforts—like expediting major capital initiatives and promoting the Look West strategy—with tangible actions that foster economic growth.”
The Chamber reiterated that strategic investments, trade reform, and tax modifications could establish British Columbia as a premier business hub in Canada. McMillan concluded, “The moment calls for resolute actions that generate employment, stimulate investment, and fortify our economy moving forward.”
