Andres Iniesta, the iconic midfielder from Barcelona and the Spanish national team, has embarked on a new adventure as the head coach of Gulf United FC in the UAE First Division League.

After retiring from professional play in 2024, Iniesta steps into coaching, with his appointment revealed by Gulf United on Monday. The club has embraced Iniesta’s vision as he continues his education in coaching.

Now at 42, Iniesta has recently secured his UEFA A Licence and is progressing towards his Pro Licence. Gulf United has welcomed him as they kickstart his coaching career.

Widely recognized among the best midfielders ever, Iniesta was pivotal during the golden eras of both FC Barcelona and Spain from the late 2000s to early 2010s. His unforgettable moment came in the 2010 FIFA World Cup final, where he netted the decisive goal against the Netherlands, leading Spain to its inaugural victory.

Throughout his illustrious career, Iniesta garnered an impressive collection of titles, including UEFA Champions League and La Liga championships with Barcelona. He ended his playing days at Emirates Club in the UAE.

Reflecting on his new chapter, Iniesta expressed that Gulf United offers the ideal foundation for his coaching aspirations. He shared his desire to contribute back to the sport and nurture young talent on their journey.

This appointment marks a new beginning for Iniesta, as he looks to transition from a celebrated playing career to a promising coaching path.
