Mumbai: Air India faced an unexpected disruption on Wednesday as flight AI191, scheduled from Mumbai to Newark, had to make a precautionary return to Mumbai due to a suspected technical issue. The Boeing 777 aircraft, which took off at approximately 1:50 am, was airborne for over three hours before safely landing back in Mumbai. Air India confirmed that the aircraft is now undergoing thorough inspections to ensure passenger safety. The airline emphasized that safety remained its top priority, and all necessary protocols were followed during the return.

The technical issue prompted Air India to cancel not only AI191 but also flight AI144, scheduled to operate from Newark to Mumbai. Passengers affected by the cancellations have been provided with hotel accommodations and have been rebooked on alternative flights offered by Air India and partner airlines. Air India stated that it is assisting all affected passengers with timely updates and alternative arrangements, ensuring minimal inconvenience. While the exact number of passengers impacted was not disclosed, the airline has assured full support during this disruption.

This mid-air return highlights the challenges airlines face in maintaining technical and operational safety for long-haul flights. Air India, operating one of its flagship Boeing 777 aircraft, acted promptly, demonstrating strong safety protocols and contingency planning.
