Ahaan Panday Talks Privilege, Dismisses 'Star Kid' Label Post Saiyaara Triumph

Ahaan Panday Talks Privilege, Dismisses 'Star Kid' Label Post Saiyaara Triumph

Post by : Meena Ariff

Ahaan Panday's entry into Bollywood has been nothing short of a dream for newcomers. His debut film, Saiyaara, directed by Mohit Suri, has skyrocketed at the box office, amassing approximately ₹580 crore and establishing itself as the highest-grossing romantic movie in the history of Indian cinema. Both audiences and critics have showered praise on his performance, marking a strong commencement for his acting career. However, discussions around his privilege and familial background linger.

Ahaan Panday Disavows 'Star Kid' Identity

In a candid interview with GQ, Ahaan tackled the contentious label of 'star kid.' He expressed that he finds it unsuitable as his father, Aloke 'Chikki' Pandey, does not work in the film industry.
“I lack a direct experience to share as Chikki Pandey isn’t a star,” he remarked. “However, speaking on behalf of peers, everyone grapples with their own challenges.”

Despite his parents—Chikki Pandey, a businessman, and wellness coach Deanne Pandey—not being fixtures in Bollywood, Ahaan's proximity to the industry is notable, thanks to his father’s friendship with Shah Rukh Khan and his uncle, actor Chunky Panday. This has allowed him to be around film personalities during his formative years.

Ahaan Reflects on His Privilege

Looking back, Ahaan described feeling like he was near the film realm without being fully integrated into it.
“It’s as if my origin lies beyond a fence. I can extend my hand, but can’t fully engage with what lies on the other side,” he explained. “Being amidst the film fraternity imparted invaluable knowledge, even if I wasn’t embedded in it—the exposure I received is my privilege.”

Ahaan Panday's Future Endeavors

Following the massive success of Saiyaara, Ahaan is excited about his next venture with Yash Raj Films. The upcoming film, an action-romance helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar, will star Sharvari opposite him, with Aaishvary Thackeray playing the villain. Details regarding the film's title are yet to be revealed.
