A worsening humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan is forcing families to make heartbreaking decisions as poverty, hunger and unemployment continue to spread across the country.
In Ghor province, hundreds of men gather every morning in search of work, hoping to earn enough money to buy food for their families. Many return home empty-handed after waiting for hours.
Several fathers told reporters they are struggling to feed their children as food shortages and rising unemployment push families deeper into desperation. Some parents said their children had gone days without eating properly.
One father, Abdul Rashid Azimi, said he was considering selling one of his young daughters for marriage or domestic work because he could no longer provide food for the rest of the family. He described the decision as painful but said he felt he had no other option.
Another father, Saeed Ahmad, revealed he had already agreed to give away his five-year-old daughter in exchange for money needed for her medical treatment. He said the child needed urgent surgery and the family had no financial support.
The humanitarian situation has reportedly worsened after major international aid cuts over the past two years. Afghanistan is also facing severe drought conditions, increasing food insecurity and pushing millions closer to famine.
Doctors and nurses in provincial hospitals say child malnutrition and infant deaths are increasing rapidly. Medical staff described overcrowded wards, shortages of medicines and growing numbers of severely underweight babies struggling to survive.
Aid agencies continue to warn that millions of Afghans remain at risk without urgent humanitarian assistance as the economic crisis deepens across the country.
