ADU Promotes Inclusion and Accessibility Among Students

ADU Promotes Inclusion and Accessibility Among Students

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Abu Dhabi University (ADU) has successfully wrapped up its Inclusion Advocates of Tomorrow programme, designed to empower students with the necessary skills and knowledge to enhance accessibility and social inclusion. This initiative, coordinated by ADU Innovate, partnered with the Zayed Authority for People of Determination, Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an, and Key2Enable to innovate real-world inclusive education practices.

Over the year, over 100 ADU students embarked on a well-structured journey merging theoretical knowledge with practical learning. They studied inclusive design concepts, accessibility standards, and assistive technologies, and participated in field visits to the Zayed Authority, where they observed these tools in actual educational environments.

The initiative also allowed students to gain practical experience with assistive devices such as adaptive keyboards and specialized educational software from Key2Enable, helping them understand the challenges faced by People of Determination. Concurrently, the Community Volunteering Activation Program (CVAP) by Ma’an engaged these students in activities promoting inclusion, demonstrating the impact of teamwork in creating real change.

ADU's drive for inclusive innovation further reinforces its dedication to fostering educational settings where all abilities are celebrated. Graduates from this programme are now equipped to develop solutions that eliminate barriers, ensuring more accessible and equitable educational and communal spaces.

Through such initiatives, Abu Dhabi University asserts its position as a center for inclusion and innovation, motivating the next generation of leaders to advocate for accessibility, compassion, and societal advancement in all areas of life.
