Late Monday night, a 3.3 magnitude earthquake struck San Ramon, California, as per reports from the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The quake occurred around 10:47 p.m. local time near Alcosta Boulevard and Canyon Hills Road, with a depth of approximately six miles.
Residents from nearby locations such as Pleasanton, Walnut Creek, and Danville noted weak shaking, contributing their observations through the USGS “Did You Feel It” platform. Fortunately, there have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries, and thus far, no warnings have been issued by the authorities.
This seismic activity comes shortly after numerous tremors were recorded in the vicinity on November 9, specifically eight quakes in about three hours, the strongest measuring a magnitude of 3.8. The recent event aligns with the same fault lines, indicating that minor seismic occurrences are ongoing in the San Ramon area.
Experts state that such earthquakes are commonplace in Northern California, usually registering as minor events that cause little ground shaking. Shallow earthquakes like this one can be felt across a broader region but are rarely damaging. The USGS remains vigilant, urging residents to adhere to earthquake preparedness guidelines.
Local officials confirmed that no emergency action was required and reiterated that minor quakes are a regular occurrence in this fault-prone region.
This incident serves as a reminder of the persistent seismic activity in the East Bay, highlighting the importance of being prepared for earthquakes.
