Deadly Landslide in West Java Kills 7, Over 80 Still Missing

Deadly Landslide in West Java Kills 7, Over 80 Still Missing

Post by : Meena Ariff

A deadly landslide has struck Indonesia’s West Java province, leaving at least seven people dead and 82 others still missing. The disaster happened after days of heavy rainfall soaked the area, making the land unstable and dangerous.

The landslide hit a small village in the West Bandung region. Large amounts of mud, rocks, and debris suddenly came down from nearby hills, destroying homes and blocking roads. Many residents were caught by surprise while they were inside their houses.

Local officials said rescue teams are working nonstop to find survivors. However, the search has been difficult because of thick mud, damaged roads, and the risk of more landslides. Heavy rain is still falling in some areas, slowing down rescue work.

Disaster agency spokesperson Abdul Muhari said the number of missing people is very high, and teams are trying their best to reach everyone as quickly as possible. Search and rescue workers are using digging tools, machines, and trained dogs to locate people trapped under the debris.

Emergency shelters have been set up for families who lost their homes. Many villagers are now staying in temporary camps, waiting for news about their loved ones. Medical teams are also present to help the injured and provide basic care.

Indonesia often faces landslides during the rainy season, especially in hilly areas. Experts warn that deforestation and climate changes have made such disasters more dangerous in recent years.

Authorities have urged people living near hillsides and rivers to stay alert and move to safer places if heavy rain continues. Rescue efforts are expected to continue until all missing persons are found.
