US President Donald Trump has once again claimed responsibility for resolving the conflict between India and Pakistan. Speaking at a White House meeting with oil and gas executives, Trump stated that no one in history deserves the Nobel Peace Prize more than him. He criticized former President Barack Obama for receiving the prize without achieving significant peace accomplishments.
During the meeting, Trump reiterated his claim that eight jets were shot down in the India-Pakistan conflict last May but did not specify which side they belonged to. He also boasted about settling eight long-standing wars during his presidency, some lasting over three decades, and emphasized his role in preventing a major conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
Trump mentioned that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who visited the White House last year, credited him with saving millions of lives by halting the conflict. This is the second time in recent days that Trump has taken credit for ending tensions between India and Pakistan, a claim he has frequently made since May 10 last year when he announced a “full and immediate” ceasefire after Washington’s mediation.
The conflict began in early May 2025, when India launched Operation Sindoor to target terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This was in response to a deadly attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians. After several days of drone and missile strikes across the border, both countries agreed to cease hostilities, though India has denied any external mediation.
Trump insisted that his efforts to stop wars were unparalleled and that no other leader had done more. He criticized Obama for receiving the Nobel Prize soon after taking office in 2009 despite “doing nothing” to merit the award. Trump argued that peace efforts that stop major wars should be recognized with Nobel honors, claiming to have saved tens of millions of lives.
He also recounted a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who, according to Trump, was amazed at how quickly the US ended two long-standing conflicts that Russia had struggled to resolve for years.
Additionally, Trump spoke about Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who dedicated her Nobel Peace Prize last year to him. He said she plans to visit Washington soon to pay tribute, and he expressed his appreciation for her support. Trump suggested that the Nobel Committee in Norway is embarrassed over the decision not to honor him last year.
In a recent interview, Trump reaffirmed his stance that he prevented a large-scale war between India and Pakistan, highlighting his role in maintaining peace between two powerful nuclear nations.
