US President Donald Trump has once again claimed credit for ending eight wars, including the recent military conflict between India and Pakistan, during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at Mar-a-Lago, Florida. Trump expressed frustration about not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize despite his claimed diplomatic successes.
In the video of the meeting, Trump said he stopped the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan by imposing heavy trade tariffs, which led the countries to call for peace after 35 years of fighting. He described this as a swift resolution that even Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged.
Trump also stated that the United States brokered the ceasefire between India and Pakistan earlier this year. He said his trade concessions helped bring both sides to an agreement. "Do I get credit for it? No. I did eight of them. India. How about India and Pakistan..." Trump said during the meeting.
However, India has consistently rejected any claim of third-party mediation. New Delhi maintains that the ceasefire was agreed upon directly between the two countries' military officials without outside intervention. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also informed Parliament that no foreign leader requested India to stop Operation Sindoor, the Indian military operation targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Operation Sindoor began on May 7, following a deadly attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians. After four days of intense cross-border drone and missile exchanges, India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire agreement on May 10.
Despite repeated claims by Trump—over 70 times since May—that he ended the conflict, India's official stance remains clear: the peace understanding was a result of bilateral communication between India and Pakistan’s military leadership, without US involvement.
This ongoing dispute over credit highlights the sensitive nature of South Asian geopolitics and the importance India places on handling its conflicts independently.
