The Raja Saab, featuring Prabhas in the lead, has turned out to be one of the biggest box office disappointments in recent memory. Despite a strong opening day collection of ₹100 crore worldwide, the film's momentum quickly faded, and it only managed to cross the ₹200 crore mark globally after 10 days — the slowest for any Prabhas film following the Baahubali series.
The initial excitement surrounding the film was high, with hopes for a successful theatrical run. However, the movie struggled to maintain audience interest and failed to recover even during the lucrative Sankranti holiday period. In its second weekend, the domestic collections dropped sharply, bringing in just ₹9 crore net, which is more than a 90% fall compared to its opening weekend. Currently, the film's total domestic earnings stand at ₹139.25 crore net (₹167 crore gross).
On the international front, the film performed moderately, earning approximately $4 million, largely driven by its strong debut in the United States. This brings the worldwide gross to around ₹202 crore after a week in theaters.
When placed alongside Prabhas’ previous box office failures like Adipurush and Saaho, which crossed the ₹200 crore mark within just two days, The Raja Saab’s slow pace is especially striking. It took five times longer to reach the same milestone, signaling weaker audience reception. Considering Adipurush and Saaho eventually grossed between ₹390-430 crore, The Raja Saab is expected to finish with much lower totals.
The film reportedly had a hefty production budget of around ₹400 crore, meaning it is still far from breaking even and is likely running at a significant loss.
Directed by Maruthi, The Raja Saab had created buzz as Prabhas’ comeback to the family entertainer genre after many years of focusing on mass action films. The cast also features notable actors such as Sanjay Dutt, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, Riddhi Kumar, Boman Irani, and Zarina Wahab. Despite the anticipation and star-studded lineup, the film received mostly negative reviews, which further impacted its performance at the box office. Audience interest waned quickly, making it a major commercial failure.
