The Thai government is accelerating its clean energy policies with a major focus on making solar rooftop systems easier and more affordable for households and businesses. The initiative is part of the government’s wider plan to reduce electricity costs, improve energy efficiency, and support sustainable urban development across the country.
According to Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, the government under Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is prioritizing modern energy systems that are practical, accessible, and financially beneficial for the public. The government believes clean energy should improve people’s lives without creating additional financial burdens or long-term debt.
Deputy Interior Ministers Polpeerap Suwannachawi and Worasit Liengprasit recently visited the headquarters of the Metropolitan Electricity Authority in Bangkok to deliver policy directions related to clean energy and electricity cost reduction. Officials emphasized the importance of developing efficient services that support easier public access to renewable energy solutions, especially solar rooftop systems.
The government has instructed the Metropolitan Electricity Authority to study ways to lower electricity production costs and reduce overall energy expenses for consumers. Authorities have also been asked to speed up support for solar rooftop installations in homes and commercial buildings. Officials stressed that clean energy must remain affordable and should provide long-term savings rather than become a financial burden for families.
One of the key projects announced is the development of a “One Stop Service” system for solar rooftop installations. The system, expected to launch by May this year, will simplify the entire installation process for citizens. The service will include consultation, permit applications, electricity connections, loan coordination, and after-installation support in one integrated platform. The project is being developed in cooperation with the Provincial Electricity Authority to ensure nationwide accessibility.
The government is also encouraging MEA and PEA to improve service quality and strengthen public confidence in renewable energy systems. Authorities are focusing on promoting safety standards, warranty services, and long-term maintenance support. At the same time, efforts are being made to lower installation and operational costs so that more people can access clean energy technologies.
Alongside solar rooftop expansion, Thailand is continuing to develop smart energy infrastructure projects including Smart Metro Grid systems, smart electricity meters, underground power cable projects, and electric vehicle charging stations. Officials say these developments will improve public safety, modernize urban areas, support tourism, and strengthen Thailand’s long-term energy and economic security.
