Thailand and Bahrain have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in several important sectors including trade, investment, medical tourism and food security during high-level diplomatic talks held in Bangkok. The discussions took place on May 14, 2026, when Bahrain’s Ambassador to Thailand, Khalil Yaqoob AlKhayat, paid a courtesy visit to Thai Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at Government House.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Anutin congratulated the Bahraini Ambassador on assuming his diplomatic duties in Thailand and emphasized the strong and long-standing relationship shared by the two countries. He stated that Thailand values Bahrain as an important partner in the Middle East and highlighted the close cooperation maintained through royal, governmental and people-to-people relations over many decades.
Both sides also noted that Thailand and Bahrain are preparing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year. The Bahraini Ambassador expressed happiness about returning to Thailand, mentioning that his previous diplomatic experience in the country has given him a deep understanding of Thai society, culture and bilateral cooperation opportunities.
Trade and investment cooperation became one of the key focuses of the discussions. Thailand and Bahrain agreed to work toward increasing bilateral trade value and encouraging stronger private-sector engagement between businesses from both countries. Prime Minister Anutin expressed hope that more business delegations and investors would explore opportunities in both markets in the coming years.
The Bahraini Ambassador also highlighted Bahrain’s strategic location near Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries, saying Bahrain could serve as a gateway for Thai products entering Middle Eastern markets. Both sides discussed expanding cooperation in food exports, logistics and investment projects to strengthen economic partnerships and regional trade connections.
Medical tourism and healthcare cooperation were also important topics during the talks. Thailand remains one of the most popular destinations for Bahraini tourists seeking medical treatment and wellness services. Officials stated that more than 30,000 Bahraini visitors are expected to travel to Thailand by 2025, with many choosing the country for advanced healthcare services. The Bahraini Ambassador praised Thailand’s healthcare standards and agreed to support stronger cooperation in the sector.
Food security was another major issue discussed during the meeting. Thailand reaffirmed its role as a reliable producer and exporter of high-quality food products that can support Bahrain’s food supply needs. Both countries expressed interest in increasing cooperation related to agriculture, food production and long-term supply chain stability.
Prime Minister Anutin also expressed concern over the ongoing tensions in the Middle East and stressed the importance of dialogue, peace and de-escalation in the region. Despite regional uncertainties, both Thailand and Bahrain reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining strong bilateral cooperation and expanding partnerships in areas of mutual benefit in the future.
