Strata Syensqo Advanced Materials (SSAM) has reached a significant milestone in the UAE’s manufacturing domain by producing carbon fibre prepreg materials at their Al Ain facility. These advanced materials are pivotal in modern aviation structures and are gaining global traction.
This announcement was made during the latest Make it in the Emirates forum, emphasizing the UAE's strength in manufacturing innovation.
SSAM, a collaboration between Strata Manufacturing PJSC and Belgium's Syensqo, confirmed that the newly created prepreg rolls will serve as test components for Boeing’s 777X under a long-lasting supply agreement.
Sara Abdulla Al Memari, Acting CEO of Strata, noted that these advanced materials are integral to their ongoing industrial strategy, aligning with the UAE's National Strategy for Industry and the Make it in the Emirates initiative.
Khaled Saif Al Nuaimi, Engineering and Maintenance Manager at SSAM, highlighted that this facility is the premier establishment of its kind in the Middle East, addressing varied customer needs in prepreg manufacturing.
The production process consists of five key phases, beginning with the creation of industrial resin under specific conditions. This resin is then applied to paper sheets and kept in controlled, low-temperature storage. Subsequently, carbon fibres are layered with the resin-coated sheets under heat and pressure to produce the final carbon fibre prepreg material.
Final product sizes are tailored to customer specifications before being safely packaged and stored to ensure quality before shipment.
Al Nuaimi added that each product undergoes rigorous quality assessments at SSAM’s Al Ain laboratories, affirming compliance with international standards. He pointed out the significant involvement of Emirati talent in various roles—engineering, production, maintenance, and quality assurance—underscoring the local expertise in this field.
These professionals have received specialized training in Germany and the UK, facilitating knowledge transfer and enhancing the UAE's capabilities in advanced manufacturing.
The notable presence of national companies at the Make it in the Emirates forum symbolizes the UAE’s swift advancement in materials innovation and aerospace production, supporting the ambition of positioning Abu Dhabi as a competitive industrial player on the global stage.
