Singapore Courts has issued a public warning about a rising scam involving fake court orders that pressure victims into transferring money. Authorities said scammers are sending fraudulent legal notices through messaging platforms and emails, often threatening arrest or legal consequences if payments are not made immediately.
Officials revealed that these fake documents sometimes include incorrect logos from agencies like the Monetary Authority of Singapore, making them appear more authentic. Victims are typically instructed to transfer money or share sensitive banking details.
Scammers Using Fear Tactics
The judiciary clarified that genuine court orders are never sent via WhatsApp, Telegram, or personal email. They also do not request bank login credentials or direct fund transfers from individuals.
Experts note that such scams rely on fear and urgency, pushing victims to act quickly without verifying the authenticity of the documents.
How To Verify Court Orders
Authorities advised the public to verify any suspicious documents through the Authentic Court Orders (ACO) portal. Legitimate court documents include a QR code or access code that can be checked online for authenticity.
Citizens are also encouraged to contact SG Courts directly through official channels if they receive any doubtful notices.
Growing Cyber Fraud Concerns
This warning comes amid a broader rise in cyber fraud cases across the region, with scammers increasingly impersonating government institutions. Similar scams have been reported in other countries, targeting individuals through fake legal or financial threats.
Officials urged the public to stay alert, avoid sharing personal or financial information, and report any suspicious activity immediately.
