Meraas, a subsidiary of Dubai Holding Real Estate, has announced an ambitious expansion of the Dubai Design District (d3), transforming it into a lively waterfront community dedicated to creativity, design, and urban sophistication. The revised masterplan aims to establish d3 as a hub where residents can live, work, and foster connections in a thoughtfully organized environment.
Situated strategically between Downtown Dubai and Dubai Creek, the expanded district spans roughly 18 million square feet. This initiative integrates residential units, cultural venues, retail spaces, hospitality options, and landscaped public areas, delivering a harmonious blend of living and working spaces. As the demand for design-centric and well-connected waterfront communities in Dubai rises, interest from local and international buyers remains strong.
A standout feature of this masterplan is the “Design Line,” a shaded pedestrian pathway that runs through the core of the district. This primary walkway promotes foot traffic and social engagement, showcasing public art, creative installations, green corridors, and community spaces. It interlinks various zones of d3 while solidifying its identity as one of Dubai’s most design-focused neighborhoods.
Sustainability plays a crucial role in this vision. The development is pursuing LEED Silver community certification, emphasizing energy-efficient designs, sustainable mobility, and robust connections to the natural environment. Visual ties to Dubai Creek and the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary are incorporated into the overall plan, enriching the urban landscape.
The expanded d3 will feature five unique areas, each characterized by its distinct identity. The canal-front area will showcase modern residences and boutique hospitality alongside an active waterfront promenade. The urban nucleus will combine living spaces with curated retail and dining, closely integrated with d3’s existing creative establishments. Another section will serve as a cultural hub, including performance venues and mid-tier residences overlooking the d3 Bowl. A wellness-focused area will boast residences set amidst parks, sports amenities, and mangrove-inspired landscapes. The last area will emphasize creativity, providing studios, galleries, and loft-style spaces tailored for artists and designers.
This expansion capitalizes on the strong momentum already witnessed in the district. Recent residential launches have experienced significant demand, notably the rapid sell-out of the Atelis waterfront tower and the favorable reception of The Edit, a trio of towers featuring design-oriented homes.
With this updated masterplan, Dubai Design District is on track to evolve into one of the city's most distinctive waterfront neighborhoods, merging creative culture with daily living and reinforcing Dubai’s standing as a global design and innovation hub.
