His Highness Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in Al Ain Region, received a distinguished group from Khalifa University of Science and Technology, led by President Professor Ebrahim Al Hajri, to showcase the university's pioneering efforts in scientific research and technology.
During their discussion, the delegation briefed His Highness on various research initiatives and innovative projects being executed at the university's three colleges and 14 specialized research centers. Key updates were provided on work from the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, the College of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, as well as the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, including insights from the Cybersecurity Academy and the Khalifa University Center for Experiential Learning and Clinical Simulation.
The delegation brought attention to recent advancements in satellite-based remote sensing technologies and artificial intelligence emerging from the Environmental and Geophysical Sciences (ENGEOS) Laboratory.
Researchers detailed how these advanced technologies can accurately detect and analyze subsurface features without needing direct ground surveys. They are effectively utilized to uncover buried archaeological sites, concealed groundwater reserves, and geological formations.
Officials noted that these research methods have been successfully implemented across the UAE, including UNESCO World Heritage archaeological sites in the Al Ain area.
Additionally, the delegation presented the ENGEOS laboratory’s extensive ground-penetrating radar network, comprising 20 specialized instruments located throughout Khalifa University campuses. These systems aid in field validation and scientific studies in a variety of environmental and geological contexts.
According to the university’s representatives, this technology is prepared for broader deployment across the Middle East and North Africa, with applications in weather risk forecasting, flood probability assessment, and emergency preparedness strategies.
The delegation expressed gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his welcoming presence and commended the UAE leadership for its unwavering support of scientific inquiry, innovation, and higher education.
Khalifa University restated its dedication to enhancing research capabilities and forging national and international partnerships, aligning with the UAE’s ambition to emerge as a global leader in advanced science, technology, and a knowledge-based economy.
Also present at the meeting were Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Professor Bayan Sharif, Provost of Khalifa University, Samar Al Mansoori, Senior Vice-President for Support Services, and various faculty and administrative staff.
