His Highness Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan has assessed ongoing initiatives to safeguard groundwater resources while enhancing water security in the Al Ain Region. The emphasis is on optimizing water usage, implementing modern irrigation methods, and broadening the reuse of treated water for industrial applications.
This review occurred during a meeting with representatives from the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), led by Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri. Discussions revolved around current and upcoming projects aimed at preserving groundwater supplies, improving emergency response mechanisms, and fortifying monitoring systems to avoid depletion and contamination.
During the meeting, Sheikh Hazza underlined the necessity of harmonizing development objectives with ecological sustainability. He emphasized the requirement for innovative strategies and enhanced community collaboration to foster responsible water consumption and guarantee long-term water security in alignment with the UAE’s sustainability vision.
Officials also deliberated on strategies to regulate groundwater use and deter unauthorized well drilling, particularly on farms. Such initiatives are intended to safeguard water reserves and advocate for sustainable practices. Awareness campaigns and incentive-driven programs are being promoted to educate farmers and livestock breeders regarding the dangers of unchecked water extraction.
The delegation also outlined EAD’s forthcoming priorities as per its 2026–2030 strategy, which includes specialized programs to protect natural resources, bolster water security, and sustain ecosystem health across the Al Ain Region.
Concluding the meeting, the EAD delegation expressed gratitude to Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed for his unwavering support and reaffirmed their dedication to environmental protection and sustainable resource management for future generations.
Key officials present included Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Engineer Faisal Ali Al Hammadi.
